6 Reasons to Celebrate Your Birthday

Reasons to Celebrate Your Birthday

As we get older, birthdays seem to matter less and less as we move away from the milestones. Sure, the romanticized landmark birthdays are gone, but there is still plenty of reasons to celebrate your birthday. If you’re on the fence, consider the following reasons to commemorate the last year of your life.

1. An excuse to socialize

At the least, you will get the warm fuzzies from all your well-wishing friends, maybe even a conversation with someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. If you’re the type to throw a birthday party, you’ll have the chance to get all your loved ones in one place. Whenever this happens, take time to soak in the moment and take a mental picture. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t present itself often and should be appreciated.

2. Time to reflect

A birthday marks another year gone and a chance for a fresh start. Take the time to review the last year and consider what you want to happen in the coming year. By doing so, you express gratitude for the past and feel more in control by making a plan for the future. Cosmopolitan lists several questions to ask yourself, including the following: What do I like about my life? Who are the people who add the most to my life? What is the most important habit or activity to add or subtract from day-to-day living?

3. Celebrate a phase of life

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone like 18 and 21, or a decade, like 30, 40, 50, and so on – it’s important to cement the memories of a phase of life. As Andy Bernard on The Office says, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” Tie a bow around this era of your life by celebrating it.

4. To make each other feel special

Birthdays are a great opportunity to celebrate with your friends and family and let them know how much you love them! Soak up the attention from your loved ones. Our Birthday Squad tank tops are a great way to get your friends and family involved with your celebration.

5. To eat cake

At the very least, a birthday is an excuse to eat cake, or whatever your dessert of choice is. There are only so many occasions in your everyday life where this opportunity is presented. As Marie-Antoinette said, “Let them eat cake!”

6. To express thanks

According to Harvard University, showing gratitude literally makes you feel more positive emotions and can improve health. If you’re struggling to celebrate your birthday, think of this: be grateful for another year, the relationships you formed, the progress you made toward goals, and the lessons learned. By doing so, your mental and physical health will thank you.

We hope these reasons to celebrate your birthday help ignite your birthday celebration. If you’ve enjoyed this blog, subscribe to our newsletter, or follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
